Hey guys – it’s Friday! Not only that, but it’s Friday the 13th! I’m not bothered about the supposed scary implications of Friday 13th – when you’re as clumsy as me, every day is full of bad luck. I’m more concerned about how 12 days of December have already flown by and I’ve done nothing Christmassy!
Well, apart from gift shopping, gift wrapping, putting up the decorations, Christmas baking and listening to Christmas music, but I want moooore! Where we live, we only get snow on the very tip of the volcano and as soon as there is the tiniest hint of a snowflake, the local police immediately shut down all the roads leading up there. A bit much? Not when you find out that the locals over here have a tradition of building snowmen on the bonnet of the car and racing down to the beach as fast as they can before the snowman has melted. We need to keep these people off the roads!
So, we aren’t allowed to play in the only snow we ever get because people are crazy. What’s almost as good as snow? Christmas lights! But, thanks to the recession which seems to be killing off every teeny tiny bit of festive joy around here, the lights which decorate the streets…well, let’s just say they leave a little to be desired. So we have no snow, no lights – now what?
Christmas markets! We do have Christmas markets! Last year we went to London’s Winter Wonderland which was absolutely amazing. In addition to all the attractions, they also had a huge (and I mean HUGE) Christmas market full of wonderful things like wild boar burgers with stuffing, giant pieces of homemade fudge and some of the cutest tree decorations I’d ever seen. I’ve never actually been to a Christmas market where I live, but the people around here are pretty big on artisan stuff so I’ve got my fingers crossed! If I can’t find anything worth buying, at least I’ll come back with a chocolate churro, right?
Enough of my rambling – what’s Christmas like over your way? What Christmassy stuff have you been doing over the past two weeks?
Here are the link parties I link up to. Come and party with me!
