Simple Strawberry Banana Smoothie August 8, 2014May 12, 2015 Nicola Quinn breakfast, drink, recipe, sweet breakfast So I appear to be on some sort of healthy eating kick at the minute. Usually, I eat quite healthy anyway, but recently I seem to be kicking it up a notch – overnight oats with fruit for breakfast, some sort of healthy tapas-style mini platter for lunch and then something small and light for dinner. Instead of a proper dessert, I’ve even been choosing my go-to 100-calorie microwave brownie recipe.Which I totally need to share with you asap, by the way, because it’s beyond amazing. So chocolatey and ooey-gooey – you’d never know it was fat- and sugar-free – believe me! But anyway, in the midst of my health kick (which I’m pretty sure has something to do with the ridiculous temperatures outside and absolutely nothing to do with me actually wanting to eat right) I’ve started mixing up my overnight oat breakfasts with smoothies.Usually I always prefer to eat my calories but something about this smoothie makes me feel different. Although it thickens up pretty well in the fridge, so if you chill it over night you probably could eat it with a spoon in the morning, if you wanted to. Like some sort of fruity breakfast pudding. Ooh! That sounds good! It’s hard to describe the taste of this smoothie without sounding like a complete idiot, but it’s just so fresh and fruity. Which proooobably has something to do with the fact that it’s made with fresh fruit. Well, the fruits were fresh, then I froze them so the smoothie would be cold. So that means they weren’t fresh by the time I put them in the smoothie…right? Told you I couldn’t tell you about it without sounding like an idiot. If you’re not a smoothie-for-breakfast person then this drink would pair perfectly with a light and summery breakfast or lunch. Because it’s quite small it won’t leave you feeling overly-stuffed and wanting to go back to bed just minutes after you got up like pancakes do. Plus, if you’re a real adult and have important places to be in the morning, you can easily pour this into a portable container and take it with you for a breakfast on the go!Simple Strawberry Banana SmoothieTotal Time: 5 minutesYield: 1 servingIngredients1/2 medium-sized ripe banana, chopped into pieces (mine was frozen)4 strawberries (mine were frozen)1/4 cup orange juice2 tablespoons milk4 ice cubesRecipePlace all the ingredients into a blender and process until everything is completely destroyed and you're left with a lump-free liquid.Leave the smoothie in the fridge for a couple of hours to thicken up or enjoy straight away as it is.NotesDon't have a blender?
